This post may be quite an upsetting one if it is ever been read by my community, especially coming from a city (or nation?) that has only one pride, and that is hockey. Now before being all "judgemental-ly" on me, I'm not hating on any sports whatsoever. I completely support it, and it is one of the few things in life I have nothing against for, technically-speaking. Practically-speaking, I do however have a certain problem (dilemma? conflict?) with the idea of crazy sports fans or the overhyperation (I KNOW, it's *not* a word, but isn't that the beauty of blogs?) of sport games and competitions and winning and insignificant trophies and overpaid, under-educated guys with sticks and skates. If i continue this sentence with more "and", I'd be a pretty bad writer (but then again, I'm a blogger, right?). Long story short, why the fuss?
No seriously, tell me. Why the fuss? Why should we care? Or said in another format, why don't *I* care? I don't know why I don't care. All I know is that I don't care. Not because i'm disinterested, but because what's the benefit of cheering for a team (assumely yours/mine)? Whether they win or lose, I'm not getting any richer, I'm not getting successive As in my classes, I'm not getting better looking. Before calling on my B.S., I do understand that it's about pride and the sort of nationalism idea that us humans are innately born with; but seriously, are we like 8 years old, that we constantly need to have that like "my team/city/country is better than yours at hitting a puck into a goal" attitude? I've never had to employ the expression "my dad is better than yours" as a child, but in this state of sports craze, I feel like I'm in pre-school all over again.
Okay, I get it. It's all for fun. It's about displaying one's country/city/team's achievement and throw it back into another's face. Yeah, okay, whatever. Now, if one's team wins and the citizen of that team gets a share of the incredible profit, for example a check in mail for being a proud fan of The Canadians, then watch me throw the sickest.game.parties.EVER.
P.S. I like the Olympics (except turning on the TV and always seeing curling happening), but I am so damn glad it's over. I can finally have my dose of good ol' real TV shows. HURRAY for that!
P.S.S. ALRIGHT! Canada won the last olympic game (Hockey, ha!), and won 14 Gold medals, but it's enough, stop invading my fucking FACEBOOK page with your unlegit Canadian pride. When things don't get you way, you turn your back on your nation calling it boring, non-progressive, poor, but when it starts winning shit you go all CANADIAN PRIDE on everybody's asses! Can we all just be internally, privately satisfied with our wins and then like I don't know..move the fuck on?! oui? merci. kbye.
